Recently, in Ottawa, we discovered a cafe in Old Ottawa South called Stella Luna. They handcraft their gelato in-house and it really is absolutely delicious. The ambiance of the cafe is really something special as well; super cozy…a place I’d spend hours hanging out in.
In Vancouver, by fluke, I was introduced to Bella Gelateria, where they also produce artisanal homemade gelato in a wide variety of fun flavours, including bacon and chocolate (that combo can never go wrong, right?), yuzu citrus, salted pecan with maple syrup from Quebec, organic matcha tea, Earl Grey, and London Fog (though this is an unofficial flavour that they’re just thinking of creating…after telling them I adore London Fogs, I got a taste of what they were imagining by combining vanilla with Earl Grey). This gelato is really lovely stuff. The lady working the scoops was incredibly friendly and let us try all of the flavours I mentioned above. It’s really tough choosing one or two flavours to buy in your little bowl when everything is so darn delicious!
If you’re ever on a walk in Coal Harbour (near the Vancouver Convention Centre and the Vancouver 2010 Olympic torch), check out this great little shop. Their gelato makes for the perfect snack to enjoy while sitting on the benches looking out over the waterfront and onto the North Shore.
