The Epitome of Manhattan

When I think of Manhattan, one place that sticks out in mind is a gourmet store called Dean & Deluca, located in SoHo on Broadway at Spring Street.  This is a great place to grab a snack or to get some delicious souvenirs or gifts.

People-watching from Dean & Deluca

From the outside, it doesn’t distinguish itself from all of the other fancy-looking storefronts in Manhattan. However, open the door and step inside to a store that has perfect displays of beautiful fruits and vegetables, flowers, cheeses, meats, pastries, appetizers, chocolates, gourmet goods in jars and cans, and some cookware, along with a coffee bar.  It is absolutely beautiful inside without being intimidating.  The staff are very helpful and it’s fun to grab a pastry and stand at the bars at the front of the store while people-watching, either inside or outside the store.

I can’t really describe what it feels like to walk around in Dean & Deluca.  Everything is just perfect and it makes you smile.

The only thing is that their fruits and vegetables are so perfect.  It’s great because if you choose to shop there (the produce is more expensive than at a regular grocery store though they have some organic and rarer items) because you don’t have to sort through the produce yourself but it seemed like they discard any imperfect fruit…which is wasteful.
